VW Celebrates 30 Years of the Caddy with New Special Edition

The Latest Super Bowl Ads from Audi, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes, Subaru, Toyota and VW


During the time we were offline, a number of carmakers released a whole new string of ads that will run prior to kickoff and during this Sunday's Super Bowl game between the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens in New Orleans.

There's a little something for everyone, from Mercedes-Benz's new CLA spot with Kate Upton and Kia's Space Babies, to the re-appearance of Big Bang star Kaley Cuoco in Toyota's 2014 RAV4 spot and Subaru's dog friendly commercial for the 2014 Forester crossover.

New VW Golf Mk7 for North and South America to be Produced in Mexico from Early 2014


CEO Martin Winterkorn wants VW to become the world’s number one automotive group by 2018. While the company is currently is Europe’s number one and it has increased its sales in China, Russia and Brazil, in the U.S., despite posting a 31 percent increase in 2012, it trails both General Motors and Toyota.

With its European sales having plunged by 15 percent due to the debt crisis and the market set for another decline in 2013, the sixth in a row, the German group is focusing its push in the Americas.

If you're looking for a Volkswagen car hidden somewhere in the German brand's new Super Bowl XLVII television spot dubbed "Sunny Side", sorry to say, you won't find one.

Instead, what we see in the online teaser video that was released by VW on Thursday is many, many happy people, some of whom you may recognize as they're protagonists of a number of viral internet clips.

VW Launches New Touareg R-Line, Drops Prices of CC in the UK


The Volkswagen brand is expanding the range of its Touareg SUV in Britain with the addition of a new R-Line trim that is based on the Altitude. According to VW, the R-Line adds a host of extra equipment features and unique styling cues, worth over £4,000, for a premium of £750. Read more »

New VW Polo R WRC Takes Second Place in its First Competitive Outing at Monte Carlo


Multiple world champion Sebastian Loeb of Citroen may have grabbed another win at the opening round of the 2013 FIA World Rally Championship at Monte Carlo, but it was Sébastien Ogier and the all-new VW Polo WRC that made the biggest impression.

The 29-year-old French rally driver managed to lead the Polo R WRC in its first competitive outing to second place. The third place on the podium went to Dani Sordo, who returned to Citroen after two seasons with MINI, which pulled out of the championship at the end of last year.

It's one thing standing on the side of the Nürburgring waiting for testers to run by, and another when you're doing so in an arctic climate at temperatures as low as -30 Celsius / -22 Fahrenheit, as was the case with this Volkswagen XL1 pre-production prototype.

VW Group Opens its 100th Plant Worldwide in Mexico, will Build New TSI Engines


On Tuesday, January 15, the Volkswagen Group cut the ribbon on a new engine plant in Silao in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato. The opening of the factory marks a new milestone for the German automaker as the Silao facility is the group's 100th worldwide plant.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña, the Governor of the state of Guanajuato, Miguel Marquez, and VW Group chief executive Martin Winterkorn.

Engine production in Silao will supply the North American vehicle plants in Puebla, Mexico, and Chattanooga, USA, with the latest generation of TSI turbocharged gasoline engines, including the EA 888 family, a version of which (1.8-liter with 247hp) is featured in the VW Passat Performance Concept that is being displayed at the Detroit motor show.

When you hear the words "Performance Concept", you expect to see a high-powered model with looks to match its name, yet Volkswagen's U.S.-market Passat-based study doesn't satisfy in any of these aspects.

Sure, the German brand's new EA888 1.8-liter turbocharged produces an impressive output of 247-horses (250PS) for its displacement, but these days you can get a Honda Accord V6 with 278-horsepower – and the Japanese carmaker doesn't place a performance badge on it…

If you want to raise your sales in any market, one of the first things to do is the cover the most important segments, and in the North American auto industry, this means you need to have products in all key SUV categories.

VW Sets New Record with 5.74 Million Sales in 2012, Up 12.7 Percent


In spite of losing ground in Europe, where (excluding Germany) it delivered 844,500 vehicles, 6.9 percent less than in 2011, last year was a great one for the Volkswagen brand as its global sales reached 5.74 million units, an increase of 12.7 percent compared to the previous count.

Sales were slightly down in its home market, too, dropping by 1.2 percent to 586,100 vehicles. In Central and Eastern Europe, though, which are not hit by the debt crisis, its sales increased by 22.4 percent.

This is Volkswagen's Detroit Show Passat Performance Concept with 247hp


Volkswagen is injecting some sportiness to its North American market Passat with the world premiere of a performance concept at next week's Detroit auto show.

Dubbed the "Passat Performance Concept", the German carmaker says the study gives us a sneak-peek at an upcoming sport variant of its mid-size model, which in 2012, recorded its best sales year ever in the States with 117,023 units.
